Depending on the season, shorter one-stop options may also be available, so it's worth comparing routes when you book.

The time difference is small for a destination this far away: Sri Lanka is roughly 4.5 hours ahead of Germany in summer and 5.5 hours ahead in winter, so jet lag is mild and recovery is quick.

Entry requirements for German citizens

Good news: since 25 May 2026, German citizens are among 40 nationalities who can obtain the Sri Lanka tourist ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) free of charge for a 30-day stay with double entry. You still need to apply online before you travel — the fee has simply been removed. Always apply through the official portal and confirm the current rules before your trip.
