Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between Hatton and Nuwara Eliya?

Hatton is estate country — reservoirs, tea bungalows and very little town. Nuwara Eliya is a cool colonial hill town with a lake, gardens and high tea. You get two nights of the first and one of the second, which suits most people’s appetite for each.

Why is there no train journey?

It’s optional rather than built in. The famous stretch is beautiful but eats most of a day and means your luggage travels separately. This itinerary drives the same scenery and keeps the day flexible — ask us if you’d like it added.

Day 7 is a long drive. Is there a way around it?

Not really — the highlands to the southwest coast is five to six hours whichever way you go. We break it with scheduled meal and refreshment stops and keep the arrival evening free with an early dinner.

Do we actually see tea being made?

Yes. The Hatton day includes a working plantation and factory with a Ceylon tea tasting, plus a gentle guided estate walk. It’s included, not optional.

Is three nights enough at the beach?

It gives you one full leisure day, one half-day excursion and arrival and departure days. If you want more beach, the 14-day itinerary gives you six coastal nights across two destinations.
