Tour Overview

Trade the crowds for cool mountain air, misty grasslands, and golden southern beaches on this 8-day journey through Sri Lanka’s scenic heart. Settle into the colonial hill station of Nuwara Eliya with its waterfalls and lakeside walks, trek to the dramatic cliff-edge of “World’s End” in Horton Plains, then ride one of the world’s most beautiful train journeys down to Ella. Hike to panoramic viewpoints, tour a working tea estate, and head south for a wildlife safari in Yala before unwinding on the beaches of Unawatuna and exploring colonial Galle. A nature-and-wildlife escape for travellers who want Sri Lanka’s landscapes and coast without the ancient-city circuit.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's included in the price?

This is an all-inclusive private tour — airport transfers, a private air-conditioned vehicle with an English-speaking chauffeur guide, accommodation with daily breakfast, entrance tickets to all listed attractions, all mentioned activity costs, the scenic train, daily water, and government taxes. Watersports, optional high tea, and meals not listed are extra.

How difficult is the Horton Plains trek?

It’s a roughly 9 km loop on undulating terrain, taking about 3 hours, rated easy-to-moderate. We start early so you reach World’s End before the mist sets in. Good walking shoes and a light layer are recommended — mornings are cold at this altitude.

Is the scenic train ride guaranteed?

The train from Nanu Oya to Ella is included, but first-class seats are very limited (only released about a month ahead) and sell out quickly. We book as early as possible, though availability can’t be guaranteed.

Why doesn't this tour include Sigiriya or the Cultural Triangle?

This itinerary is deliberately focused on hill-country scenery, Horton Plains, wildlife, and the coast — ideal if you’ve seen the ancient cities before or simply prefer nature and beaches. We can easily add a Cultural Triangle extension if you’d like both.

How likely are we to see leopards in Yala?

Yala has one of the world’s highest leopard densities, so chances are good — though sightings can’t be guaranteed. A second safari can be added to improve your odds.

What's the best time of year for this tour?

Horton Plains is clearest on dry mornings from roughly December to March, and the southern coast is at its best from November to April — making that window ideal.
